The Wedding Party: Groomsmen

Alex Steady

Best Man

How do you know the bride and groom?

Bride: My older brother's fiancé - the older sissy I never had ;)

Groom: My older brother, mentor, hero, and the person I look up to still to this day!

What is your favorite memory with the bride and groom?

Bride: My first trip to Las Vegas in January 2012 for my and Dr. Martin Luther King's birthday. Kelly and I bonded over our good looks and getting into night clubs for free.

Groom: There are way too many memories to list... Visiting him at UCLA was always a good time. Well, anytime being included in his plans... Especially when I was in high school, being able to do what my brother was doing was always memorable and meant a lot to me.

What is a fun fact about yourself?

Tongue tricks - I can blow bubbles.

If you could have 3 wishes what would they be?

1. Stop time (I'll leave this one to your imagination)

2. The A's winning the World Series multiple times in my lifetime

3. Finding a cure to all diseases, especially Cancer and ALS

Corey Reich

Groomsman

How do you know the groom?

I met the groom when I moved to Piedmont in the seventh grade. We had both always been the only Corey at our schools so, naturally, we hated each other. It wasn't until the eighth grade that we became friends.

What is your favorite memory with the groom?

Having been best friends for almost fifteen years, it's impossible to pick out one favorite memory.

What is a fun fact about yourself?

Fun fact: I'm a vexillophile.

If you could have 3 wishes what would they be?

1. A cure for ALS (is it selfish to wish for a cure for your own disease?)

2. The A's to win their tenth World Series

3. World peace (one wish is always world peace, right?)

Gavin Lurie

Groomsman

How do you know the groom?

Corey's freshman year roommate (BFF's ever since). And indirectly led to Corey and Kelly meeting through mutual friends (you can thank me later)

What is your favorite memory with the bride and groom?

Clearly the NYE Cruise 1 month after Corey and Kelly started dating. Free Champagne, BRAD, $5 Blackjack, REX Nightclub...enough said

What is a fun fact about yourself?

I once watched Corey's high school senior year football highlight tape and loved every minute of it

If you could have 3 wishes what would they be?

1. Become a scratch golfer with never having to practice putting (seriously never)

2. Have a large house so my wife and I can adopt chihuahuas at the same rate as Corey and Kelly are.

3. Set the genie free (Credit: Aladdin)

Eric Readinger

Groomsman

How do you know the groom?

The bride is my sister. Corey is my new brother.

What is your favorite memory with the bride and groom?

When we all attended the Padres game this year. It was Corey's first time at Petco.

What is a fun fact about yourself?

I'm a bigger Chargers fan than Sis.

If you could have 3 wishes what would they be?

1. Chargers win the Super Bowl.

2. Padres win the World Series.

3. That I get to dance at this wedding.

Our Wedding

The Wedding Party: Bridesmaids

Amie Peterson

Maid of Honor

How do you know the bride?

When Kelly and I were in our early twenties we lived 4 doors down from each other. We didn't realize this until one night out at the ivy nightclub. Kelly was drinking champagne at her own VIP table, which she basically had reserved for her every weekend. I knew I had to be friends with her. Luckily our other neighbor Carl also thought we should be friends and introduced us. We were instantly best friends and were basically attached at the hip from that point on.

What is your favorite memory with the bride?

There are a million great memories but I'll just mention one crazy weekend we spent in Palm Springs. Kelly and I took over the JW Marriott. Somehow kelly ended up recruiting Phil Mickelson, pro golfer, to join our crew. We were running around the place hyped up on b12 vitamin spray and had a group of golfers doing the same. Kelly and I then faked like we were fighting so that we could bail on them and go order grilled cheese sandwiches in our room. Grilled cheese sandwiches are pretty much at the end of every Amie/Kelly night.

What is a fun fact about yourself?

Before I became a dental hygienist my previous job was opening briefcase #12 on the show Deal or No Deal

If you could have 3 wishes what would they be?

1. Health and happiness for myself

2. Health and happiness for my friends and family

3. For Kelly and Corey to move back to San Diego

Cassidy Christensen

Bridesmaid

How do you know the bride?

I know Kels Bells because she used to come get bottles a poppin (yup baller status) at the nightclub I cocktailed at downtown San Diego, The Ivy. I was always wondering "Who is this super fun rad chick?!" One night I was her bottle server and found her i phone in the cushion of a VIP table after she left and called her mom that night to let her know. The next day I met her to return her phone and we were sistas from another mista ever since!

What is your favorite memory with the bride?

It is hard to choose just one favorite memory with someone like Kels, but first thing that comes to mind is playing truth or dare! on Kels 25th birthday in SF. There was a blow up mattress outside on her patio involved, a fire extinguisher, and lots of hilarious dares to follow!

What is a fun fact about yourself?

I am obsessed with traveling and surfing! I used to live in Hawaii ,and I have surfed many places/waves I probably had no business surfing!

If you could have 3 wishes what would they be?

1. Live on a private island with awesome surf and a cute surfer family/surfer babies. :)

2. That my family and friends all have long, healthy ,happy, and prosperous lives.

3. Be madly in love with my future husband and only get married once!

Leah Westphalen

Bridesmaid

How do you know the bride?

Kelly and I met through our graduate program at University of San Francisco and quickly became close friends.

What is your favorite memory with the bride?

It's not one particular memory, per se - but numerous memories ranging from late night study sessions to late night muffin top-eating shenanigans. Kelly and I have a blast whether we are being studious or immature...and Corey buckles up for the ride regardless.

What is a fun fact about yourself?

I have rocked a bowl cut at least twice in my life. Equally as important, I love horrible reality television. Which is probably another reason why Kelly and I get along so well :)

If you could have 3 wishes what would they be?

1. Live back in San Francisco

2. To find the perfect work/life balance

3. Win the lottery to really find that perfect work/life balance

Rachel Lipman

Bridesmaid

How do you know the bride?

We're both from San Diego --I don't think we really hung out much at Bishop's, but we reconnected in San Francisco over our love of all things SD and the Chargers. I think our friendship fate was sealed with the trip to the Chargers bar in the shiny blue and gold spandex costume complete with foam fingers and bright blue sunglasses. One word...LUNGES!

What is your favorite memory with the bride?

There are so many! Probably our bike adventure across the city the afternoon before she met Corey becuase I learned how to ride a bike again...after some Pier 23 margaritas!

What is a fun fact about yourself?

I've saved a collection of beanie babies for about 15 years in hopes that one day they'd be worth BILLIONS.

If you could have 3 wishes what would they be?

1. Good health for friends and family

2. I'd love to have the ability to fly (everyone's favorite super power), but not in a plane because takeoff is scary.

3. For the Chargers to win the Super Bowl!!

About Us

Proposal

December 29th, 2013

His Story:

The story begins with two lies. The first was that I told Kelly I was definitively not bringing an engagement ring on our vacation. The second was the day before we left; I told her that I left my passport in my office and needed to go pick it up. In reality, I was picking up her hand-crafted engagement ring.

After I got the ring, I sent pictures to my mom and to Kelly's mom. They were both very excited. I was also very excited - as I have a terrible time waiting to give people gifts.

We left early Sunday morning and I had the ring safely packed in a zippered pocket of my backpack, so that it would never leave my side. I carried the ring outside of the box, for the fear that Kelly would somehow discover the large, bulkier box.

The excitement of traveling with an engagement ring to Mexico was elevated when we arrived to Mazatlán. I was randomly selected to have my luggage searched at customs after I pressed the button and the stoplight turned red. My heart stopped for a second as I just imagined the customs agents tearing apart my bags and unwrapping the ring in front of Kelly. I told Kelly to just go ahead and I would catchup. Fortunately, the customs agents were more interested in my sunscreen and did not find my neatly packaged ring.

At the resort, we immediately went down to the pool for cocktails at sunset. I had always planned to give Kelly the ring the second day of our trip. However, after a beautiful sunset we returned to the room where Kelly received a call that the Chargers had made the playoffs. She was jumping for joy on the balcony. In a haste of happiness, I decided that I could wait no longer. On the balcony, behind her back while I was waiting for Kelly to get off the phone and turn around, I got down on one knee. When Kelly turned around her face turned to shock and I think she said, "Really?" I told her that I loved seeing her so happy (paradise + Chargers playoffs) and that I wanted to make her that happy for the rest of her life (hopefully:)). Then she said yes, then she cried.

It was a wonderful start to a great celebration in Mazatlán.

Her Story:

We were on our way to Mazatlan, Mexico to enjoy some beach/sun and to ring in the New Year. Right when we landed in Mexico, we had to go thru customs and Corey actually got stopped by the officers and had to get all of his bags inspected. I was super annoyed and told him I would meet him outside when he was done. After that we went to our hotel (Pueblo Bonito Emerald Bay), and it, by far, was one of the prettiest hotels I have ever seen. When we got to our room, I turned on the TV to check on the Chargers score as they were playing the Chiefs in the final game of the season. The Chargers, in addition to 17 other things that had to happen, had to win that game to go onto the NFL playoffs. The score was not pretty. The Chargers were down by 3 touchdowns, and I immediately told Corey to turn it off and we were going to go to the pool. We went down to the pool, watched the sunset, and toasted with our first margaritas. When we got back up to the room, I checked my phone and noticed I had 10 missed calls and a slew of text messages. I immediately called my mom to see what the emergency was. As soon as she answered, she said, "The Chargers are going to the playoffs!!" I started jumping up and down on the balcony and was trying to hold back my tears of joy. My mom said she didn't want to take too much of my time as phone calls were expensive. I hung up the phone with her, and when I turned around there he was. Corey was on his knee holding the ring up in his fingers. He said "Making you happy is the most important thing to me, and if I can make you happier in this moment I want to. Kelly--Will you marry me?" I was absolutley shocked, and immediately started crying. Obviously, I said yes! :) The rest of the trip was a fun celebration!!

About Us

Our Story

His Story:

I met Kelly on a Friday night (Nov. 12, 2010) when I was going to meet friends that had traveled to San Francisco from San Diego. I was going to meet my first friend (AJ Kessler) at a bar named La Trappe before going to pick up more friends (Gavin Lurie & Vanessa Roman) from the airport.

I got the bar first and was waiting when everyone walked in with AJ. There was a little group of people including a girl in an army fatigue style jacket (trendy?). Her name was Kelly and in between catching up with AJ, she and I were able to talk. We left the bar because a few folks were impatient with the delivery time of the food, so we walked to get pizza in North Beach. On the way, she locked her arm in mine with the excuse that she was wearing shoes that were difficult to walk on hills. I had to leave shortly after we got pizza to pickup my friends from the airport and I was sad to go so quickly. Kelly was convinced that I should stay and make Gavin and Vanessa take a taxi....I went anyway yet the story still continues :)

Two days later we went on our first date and it turned into quite the adventure. We went to Sam's in Tiburon and after a few umbrella drinks, we had missed the ferry home. Together we made the fun (rash?) decision to check into the hotel next door and head out for dinner. Well we missed the early dinner close times on Sunday night (8:30pm) so we had to procure pasta and salad from a friend of the chef. It was an amazing first date and we have been having fun ever since.

Her Story:

It was late afternoon on a Friday in November (November 12, 2010), and Rachel and I had just got back from a long biking adventure across the city. She said that she was going out that night to a Belgium beer bar because Robbie’s best friend, AJ, was up visiting from San Diego. At first I didn’t want to go, but it was a Friday night and I was not in the mood to just stay home. We arrived at La Trappe later that night, and I noticed a cute guy standing at the bar. Next thing I know that AJ and Robbie both knew him! I whispered to Rachel, “That guy is really cute!” However, to be honest, I was not really in the mood to meet anyone that night as I just wanted to have some beers and have fun. I introduced myself to Corey, we talked a little bit, and then he had to go off to the airport to pick up Gavin. Robbie, Rachel and I ended up going to get pizza and another drink at another bar. At this point, Rachel sat me down and asked me what I was doing. She basically said I would be an idiot if I did not talk to him more because she said she could tell Corey liked me. I had Robbie text AJ to see if they were going to come back out and meet us. Sure enough 20 minutes later there they were! We ended up going back to Robbie’s place and played a board game. It was getting late, so Corey offered to drive me home. When we got to my place, we channeled our inner kids and watched Aladdin.

The next morning when I woke up, Corey was gone. No note, no goodbye, nothing. I immediately called Rachel, and she said she would get to the bottom of everything. Flash forward to midnight Saturday night. I was in bed watching TV when a random 510 number started calling me. I answered the phone, and sure enough it was Corey asking if we could watch another Disney movie that night. I said it was totally fine for him to come over. When he arrived at my place, I immediately asked what happened to him that morning. Puzzled he asked “You didn’t get my note!?” I told him I had no idea what he was talking about. He walked over to my computer, and lifted up the screen. There is was! He had written me a word doc saying how he’d love to see me again and to take me on an official date.

The next day (Sunday), he surprised me and took me to Sam’s as I had never been. We had such a great time. In fact we had a little too much fun and ended up missing the last ferry back to SF. Panicking we improvised and got a hotel room right next to Sam’s as we did not want to pay the $300 taxi fare to go all the way back to SF. It was the best 1st date weekend ever, and from that point on he’s made me smile ever since!
